Young people keen to demonstrate their creativity and knowledge of recycling are invited to take part in this year’s Mayor’s Poster Challenge.

East Gippsland Shire Council mayor, Cr Joe Rettino, said the challenge asks young people across East Gippsland to design a poster promoting a message about recycling and waste management.

“We’re looking for posters with a clear message that are bright, eye-catching and unique. The message does not have to be written in words; it can be shown using pictures and colours,” Cr Rettino said.

The challenge is divided into four age groups: 5-7 years, 8-10 years, 11-13 years and 14 and over. For entrants aged 14 and over the poster theme is food waste.

Winners and runner-ups from each category will receive cool eco-theme prizes including solar powered gadgets and eco-friendly art supplies. There are also shield trophies and prizes up for grabs for schools.

Entries can be submitted to council offices in Mallacoota, Omeo, Orbost, Lakes Entrance, Paynesville or Bairnsdale, or mailed to PO Box 1618 Bairnsdale 3875. Entries must be in the post or at one of centres by 5pm on Friday, June 2.
